The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its National Convention on Friday and Saturday at Eagle Square, Abuja, with President Bola Tinubu, his cabinet, 32 state governors, and 8,453 delegates expected to participate. The event will also welcome party leaders from national, zonal, state, and ward levels.

Minister of Information and National Orientation and Co-Chairman of the Media Sub-committee for the convention, Mohammed Idris, described the gathering as a platform for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to new party executives. The convention’s theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” aims to highlight the party’s achievements and future direction under President Tinubu’s administration.

“All arrangements have been concluded for a smooth, transparent, and credible convention,” Idris said, noting that the 25 sub-committees overseeing the event had finalized all assignments to ensure operational efficiency and order.

Former Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Masari, emphasized that the party’s offices are zoned according to federal character, dismissing allegations of litigation affecting the convention. He stressed that only delegates contesting in their zoned areas are eligible to participate, warning that attempts to disrupt the process would not be tolerated.

Ahead of the convention, some members raised concerns over exclusion from the contest. Fubara Dagogo filed a complaint at the Federal High Court in Abuja after being barred from the South-South Zonal Congress despite completing all nomination requirements. Another member, Paul Oyiborume, has made similar allegations, though he has not approached the court.

The convention is expected to serve as a key moment for the APC to reaffirm its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, deepen internal policy discussions, and elect new leadership to guide the party into its next phase.
