American Rapper Wale Praises Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’ as One of the Greatest Songs Ever Written

Wale lauds Burna Boy's hit single 'Last Last' for its exceptional quality and commercial success, cementing its place in music history.

American-Nigerian rapper Wale has showered praise on Burna Boy’s smash hit single “Last Last,” calling it one of the greatest songs ever written. The rapper took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express his admiration for the song, which was released in 2022 as part of Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated album Love, Damini.

“Last Last” blends UK Garage music, Dancehall elements, and Afrobeats stylism, creating a unique and captivating sound that has resonated with global audiences. In the song, Burna Boy recounts the emotional tale of a romantic breakup, widely speculated to be about his former relationship with Jamaican-British rapper Stefflon Don. The chorus, which borrows from the Nigerian viral saying “Everybody go chop breakfast,” meaning that romantic breakups are inevitable, struck a chord with listeners, contributing to the song’s universal appeal.

The song’s relatability played a significant role in its commercial success, spending multiple weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning Burna Boy an RIAA platinum plaque. With 477 million streams on Spotify, “Last Last” has become Burna Boy’s most-streamed song as a lead artist on the platform.

Wale’s comments reflect the widespread admiration for the song’s quality and success, further solidifying its place as one of the biggest Nigerian songs of 2022. Although Wale and Burna Boy have not yet collaborated, the American rapper has consistently shown his appreciation for Nigerian music and its global impact.
