Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has expressed confidence that his old club can still win the Premier League title, despite their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates last weekend.
The loss saw Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table cut to four points, prompting pundits and fans to question the team’s mentality in the title race.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Smith described the defeat as “only a setback.”
“They have the best squad in the league, there’s no doubt about that,” Smith said.
“I think Arteta might just need to make some small changes to his tactics and maybe bring in some new players.”
Arsenal will return to Champions League action on Wednesday against Kairat Almaty in their final group stage fixture, before resuming Premier League duties with a trip to Leeds this weekend.
Smith’s remarks suggest that, despite recent doubts, the Gunners remain strong title contenders under manager Mikel Arteta.
