Ado-Ekiti – The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, praised the unwavering commitment of Ekiti State to education, noting that the state’s emphasis on education is a powerful tool in combating crime and improving societal values. Akpabio made these remarks at the 29th convocation ceremony of Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado-Ekiti, where prominent figures, including Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, FIRS Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and Bank of Industry Chairman Dr. Mansur Muhtar, were awarded honorary doctorates.

The Senate President emphasized that the value Ekiti places on education reduces the likelihood of its people engaging in criminal activities. “When you have a good product, you do not need to hype it too much as people will buy it anywhere. Ekiti people are good people, and Ekiti people are the most educated,” he stated.

Akpabio further affirmed that the state’s educational investments are pivotal in fostering peace, claiming that Ekiti’s education system ensures that its youth are equipped to differentiate right from wrong. He went on to predict that no Ekiti child would be found in prison, underscoring the state’s success in educating its youth.

During his address, Akpabio also advocated for the construction of the Ado-Ijan Ekiti Road, a project he believes would significantly boost access to the newly established Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport. He called for the road’s completion before his next visit, highlighting its potential to enhance economic activities in the region.

The Senate President also praised Senator Opeyemi Bamidele for his invaluable contributions to national development and his consistent support for education and youth empowerment. Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti also reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning education in the state and emphasized that EKSU continues to produce graduates capable of competing globally.

Governor Oyebanji acknowledged the state’s ongoing investment in education, mentioning Bamidele’s sponsorship of the bill that led to the establishment of a new University of Technology and Environmental Studies in Iyin-Ekiti, further demonstrating the state’s dedication to empowering its youth through education.

Prof. Akin Oyebode, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university council, commended Governor Oyebanji for his efforts to improve the quality of education in the state, assuring that the university’s management would continue to work toward establishing EKSU as a global institution of excellence.

The Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Joseph Ayodele, lauded the governor for his support in increasing monthly subventions to the university, a move that has helped alleviate salary delays and ensured a stable academic calendar.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele expressed gratitude for the honor, pledging to continue dedicating himself to the advancement of education and national development.
