Human rights activist and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aisha Yesufu, has advised the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, not to accept a vice-presidential position in the 2027 general election.
Yesufu gave the warning in a video currently circulating on social media, where she openly stated that she would campaign against any presidential ticket that features Obi as a running mate.
According to the outspoken sociopolitical activist, the former Anambra State governor remains one of the strongest political figures in the country and should only contest for the presidency, not deputise another candidate.
“I’m giving you people my word. If Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket,” Yesufu said.
She stressed that her opposition would stand regardless of whether she supports another candidate or not.
“In my little capacity, I will work against them even if I don’t support any other candidates,” she added.
Questioning the recurring political trend of sidelining perceived strong candidates, Yesufu argued that Obi deserves to lead rather than play a secondary role.
“Why are we always asking the best to be the second?” she asked.
Her comments have since sparked reactions across social media platforms, with supporters and critics debating Obi’s potential role and political strategy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
