The Airport Police Command has announced plans to honor fallen officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Airport Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Adeola, disclosed this on Friday via his X handle, noting that the event would also serve as a platform to deepen collaboration with the public and strengthen trust within the aviation community and beyond.

According to Adeola, the Command has lined up a series of activities to commemorate the day, beginning on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise aimed at promoting a healthy and safe airport environment.

This will be followed by a walkathon on Tuesday, March 31, designed to encourage unity and physical wellness among officers and members of the public. On Wednesday, April 1, the Command will conduct public sensitization campaigns, engaging drivers and other key stakeholders operating within the airport vicinity on safety and security awareness.

The Command will also honor the families of officers who died in the line of duty. On Thursday, April 2, cheques will be presented to families of the deceased officers in recognition of the ultimate sacrifices made by the fallen heroes.

The celebration will culminate on Tuesday, April 7, with a grand finale at Eagle Square, Abuja. The event will feature a ceremonial parade, tactical displays, and other activities showcasing the professionalism and operational readiness of the police force.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, said the occasion provides an opportunity to celebrate the courage and dedication of officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

“National Police Day gives us the opportunity not only to honor the heroes who have laid down their lives in service but also to inspire a new generation of police officers committed to professionalism and community service,” she said.

Olufunke emphasized that building strong relationships with the public remains a key element of effective policing.

“Our engagement with the public is central to effective policing. Through these celebrations, we hope to strengthen the trust and partnership between the Airport Police Command and the communities we serve,” she added.

The Command also noted that all the activities planned for the celebration align with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to deepen community partnership and boost public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

“We are fully prepared to participate actively in the National Police Day events. This is our chance to demonstrate commitment, honor our heroes, and reinforce the values of service and trust that guide our work every day,” Olufunke said.
