ADC Denies INEC Confirmation of State Chairmen Amid Leadership Dispute

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed widespread reports claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released and confirmed a list of the party’s state chairmen across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), the party’s National Spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, labelled the reports as “fake news”, warning stakeholders and the general public not to fall for misinformation designed to sow confusion within the party. No INEC Confirmation, Says ADC “To the best of our knowledge and verification, INEC has issued no such confirmation, either officially or unofficially,” Abdullahi said.

The party clarified that INEC only recognizes leadership structures submitted through appropriate internal processes after due diligence, as outlined in the ADC constitution. As of the time of the statement, no comprehensive list of state chairmen had been ratified or submitted to the electoral commission.

Internal Democracy and Ongoing Disputes

ADC used the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to internal democracy, discipline, and the rule of law in managing party affairs. The party urged its members and supporters to remain vigilant and not be misled by politically motivated misinformation.

This clarification comes as the party continues to navigate leadership tensions, including recent developments surrounding former Senate President David Mark, who INEC reportedly recognized as the ADC’s national chairman.

Court Summons and Denial of Injunction

The ADC is also contending with legal challenges. A court recently summoned David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola over leadership disputes within the party. However, the ADC has strongly denied any court injunction preventing INEC from recognizing the Mark-led faction, calling such claims another round of “fake news from desperate political jobbers.”

Conclusion

In the face of these developments, the ADC leadership is urging members to trust official communication channels and avoid giving attention to unauthorized reports or lists that do not reflect the current realities within the party.
