A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has issued a stark warning about what he described as a growing disconnect between President Bola Tinubu and the reality facing Nigeria and the ruling party.
Garba alleged that sycophants in Tinubu’s inner circle are feeding him misleading reports that portray a false sense of national and party stability.
“There is a lot of sycophancy around the president,” Garba stated. “People are telling him that things are okay – things are not okay.”
Garba’s remarks come in the wake of former APC chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s controversial resignation and the emergence of an opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He described the development as a “serious threat” to APC’s dominance.
“They [ADC coalition] hope for our loss… That is why we need a leadership that listens to criticism and accepts facts without flattery or denial.”
Garba expressed deep concern over the state of the APC in northern Nigeria, blaming internal cracks on the exit and eventual death of former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2025.
“In 2023, APC managed only 5.5 million votes in the north. Where were the 12 million votes?” he asked.
While noting that Tinubu’s 2023 victory came from “structures and strategy,” Garba stressed that the party must rebuild its northern support base and adopt inclusive, honest leadership to survive future elections.
