As of January 2025, the total number of active data internet subscribers in Nigeria has hit 142,161,409, according to the latest statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The data, which includes internet users across various technologies such as GSM, Fixed Wired, Wireless, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), highlights a strong growth in internet penetration in the country.
GSM technology remains the dominant force in Nigeria’s internet space, with 141,655,587 subscribers, making up the bulk of the active data internet users. This is followed by Wireless technology with 285,702 subscribers and VoIP with 206,067 users. The number of users subscribed to Fixed-Wired technology, however, stands at just 14,053, the smallest figure among the listed technologies.
Interestingly, the statistics also reveal a significant shift in the technology landscape, with no current subscribers to the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology. CDMA, once a widely used technology in the country, has now been completely overtaken by newer technologies like GSM and VoIP.
The rise in active data subscribers reflects the growing demand for internet access and digital services across Nigeria, with GSM continuing to maintain its stronghold as the preferred choice for internet users.
