Three people have died and four others were injured after a minivan collided with an elephant while travelling through a national park in Uganda.
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday evening inside Murchison Falls National Park in Nwoya District.
According to reports, the vehicle was carrying seven staff members of the Uganda Revenue Authority who were returning to Kampala from Arua when the crash happened.
Authorities said the minivan struck the elephant as the animal was crossing the road within the park.
Three passengers were confirmed dead, while four others sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
The condition of the elephant was not immediately known following the collision.
In a statement shared on social media, the Uganda Police Force advised motorists to be extremely careful while driving through national parks, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced and wildlife movement increases.
Police also reminded drivers to obey speed limits within protected wildlife areas to help prevent similar tragedies.
Human-wildlife conflicts have become increasingly common across parts of Africa as growing populations continue to expand into areas close to wildlife reserves and conservation zones.
Conservation experts say increased interaction between humans and wild animals has heightened the risks of accidents, crop destruction and attacks in communities located near protected parks.
