The SMART Zambia Institute has launched a digital skills training-of-trainers program in Ndola on January 12, aimed at creating a cadre of educators capable of scaling digital knowledge nationwide. The initiative targets 80 beneficiaries, primarily from public sector institutions.
According to the Institute’s Facebook page, the program is being held at the Zambia University College of Technology and focuses on strategic skills for the digital economy, including cybersecurity, digital systems management, and digital financial services. Participants are expected to pass on these skills within their institutions and beyond, following a cascade training model.
By training instructors rather than end users, the program seeks to strengthen local capacity, maximize the reach of digital learning, and reduce disparities in access to technological skills across regions and institutions.
The initiative aims to “strengthen nationwide digital inclusion and enhance public service delivery,” equipping trainers with advanced technical skills to improve administrative efficiency, enhance citizen services, and prepare the workforce for digital jobs.
This program comes as Zambia increases investment in digital infrastructure and skills development, with support from international partners. In September 2025, the World Bank approved the Digital Zambia Acceleration Project, a $100 million-plus initiative to expand internet access, strengthen public digital services, and develop market-relevant digital skills.
