FG Launches Teacher Training Programme to Boost Technical and Vocational Education

The programme is expected to improve the quality of technical instruction, better prepare students for 21st-century industry needs, and ensure Nigeria’s workforce remains globally competitive.

The Federal Government has launched a new Teacher Training Transformation Programme (TTTP) aimed at strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Nigeria.

The initiative, announced in Abuja through the Department of Technology and Science Education under the Federal Ministry of Education, is part of efforts to modernise technical education and enhance teacher capacity in line with current industry standards.

The TTTP application portal will open on July 8, 2025, and close on July 21, 2025, according to a statement from the ministry.

“The programme will re-energise TVET by equipping teachers with modern pedagogical skills,” the ministry noted.

Eligible applicants include technical and vocational subject teachers in public secondary technical schools or colleges who have at least five years left before retirement.

The training will culminate in a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) covering a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Technical Education
  • Vocational Education
  • Building Technology Education
  • Business Education
  • Home Economics & Hospitality
  • Agricultural Education
  • Automobile Technology
  • Computer Science Education
  • Electrical/Electronics

The pilot phase will be conducted in partnership with six universities:

  • Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
  • University of Nigeria, Nsukka
  • Federal University of Technology, Minna
  • University of Benin
  • Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi
  • Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo

The Ministry warned that multiple submissions will result in disqualification.
