Nigerian-Born Journalist Richard Edoki a.k.a Richybongo Named Finalist at National Hospital Radio Awards 2025

Richybongo’s show ‘African Vibe with Richybongo’ brings African culture to Cornish airwaves, bridging cultural divides.

Nigerian-born broadcast journalist Richard Edoki, popularly known as Richybongo, has been named a finalist in the Best Newcomer category at the prestigious National Hospital Radio Awards 2025.

The annual awards, organized by the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA), recognize outstanding contributions to hospital radio across the UK.

Richybongo, who hosts African Vibe with Richybongo on CHBN Radio – a Community Hospital Broadcasting Network station in Cornwall – has created a space for African culture to thrive on British airwaves.

His show, which airs every Sunday evening, celebrates the rich diversity of African culture while fostering inclusivity with Cornish audiences.

The show provides a unique platform where listeners can experience African music, food, dress sense, and language, bridging cultures and building a shared sense of community.

“By exploring African traditions, we’ve introduced the richness of our heritage to Cornish audiences, while creating a ‘home away from home’ for Africans in Cornwall,” Richybongo said. “It’s fulfilling to see how the show has become a bridge between cultures, helping everyone appreciate the diversity that makes our world so special.”

Since its debut, African Vibe with Richybongo has been a voice of connection, promoting mutual understanding and appreciation of Africa’s vibrant cultures among listeners in Cornwall.

The National Hospital Radio Awards ceremony will be held on April 5, 2025, during the HBA Annual Conference in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
