Namibia, a southern African nation, has entered into a strategic partnership with the European Union (EU) to boost its renewable hydrogen capacity, with substantial support from the EU in the form of a $1 billion investment.
This landmark agreement is a pivotal component of the EU’s expansive Global Gateway initiative, a visionary plan aimed at mobilizing an impressive $322 billion in both public and private investments. The initiative focuses on catalyzing projects in the realms of green energy, transportation infrastructure, and digital economies across diverse regions of the world.
The collaboration with Namibia extends to a comprehensive agenda that includes the enhancement of infrastructure at the Walvis Bay port, a critical entry point on the Atlantic side of the Walvis Bay – Maputo Corridor.
During the inaugural EU-Namibia Business Forum held in Brussels this week, Jutta Urpilainen, the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, engaged in discussions with Namibian President Hage Geingob.
Their conversations underscored the significance of this partnership, which holds the potential to drive substantial progress in Namibia’s sustainable development and global connectivity.
