The Kwara State Government has announced the release of 38 worshippers abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area. The freed individuals were released on Sunday, according to a statement by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.
The statement did not specify how the abductees regained their freedom, but it praised the “hands-on approach” of President Bola Tinubu, who reportedly played a direct role in coordinating the rescue efforts.
“The governor is immensely grateful to President Bola Tinubu for his direct initiative that made this happen,” the statement read. It added that the President postponed a scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to address security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi states, directing heightened security deployments to ensure the safety of citizens.
Governor AbdulRazaq also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police for their contributions to the operation.
“The governor also thanks members of the security forces across board, thought leaders, religious institutions, and all Kwarans for their support and goodwill since the unfortunate incident,” the statement concluded.
